Asia Cup 2023

The 2023 Asia Cup is all set to be the 16th edition of this prestigious tournament, with matches to be played as One Day Internationals (ODIs).

This time, the tournament will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, adding to the excitement for cricket fans around the world.

Scheduled to be held in August and September 2023, the Asia Cup will feature six teams competing for the coveted title.

The defending champions, Sri Lanka, will look to retain their crown, while the other five full members of the Asian Cricket Council – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka – will be eager to claim the trophy for their respective countries.

Nepal's Debut

The 2023 Asia Cup will mark an important milestone as Nepal makes its debut in the tournament.

Having qualified by winning the 2023 ACC Men's Premier Cup, Nepal will join the ranks of cricketing nations vying for glory.

Joint Hosting and Fixture Announcement

In an unprecedented move, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will jointly host the tournament.

Four matches will be played in Pakistan, while the remaining nine matches will take place in Sri Lanka.

This collaborative effort aims to bring top-class cricketing action to fans in both countries and promote the spirit of sportsmanship across the region.

The fixtures for the tournament were announced on July 19, 2023, further fueling the anticipation among cricket enthusiasts.

Tournament Format and Teams' Lineup

The tournament format was announced on January 9, 2023, with the six teams divided into two groups of three. Group A comprises India, Pakistan, and Nepal, while Group B consists of defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

A total of 13 matches will be played in the tournament, including six league matches, six Super 4 matches, and a final.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4 stage, where the battle for the final showdown will intensify.

Seeding and Potential Scenarios

Pakistan and India, being the highest-ranked teams, have been seeded as A1 and A2, respectively. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as the other full members, are seeded as B1 and B2.

However, a unique scenario emerges if Nepal and Afghanistan qualify for the Super 4 stage; they will replace the teams eliminated from their respective groups, adding an exciting twist to the tournament.
