Asia Cup: The Premier Cricket Championship of Asia

Asia Cup

The Asia Cup, established in 1983 by the Asian Cricket Council, stands as the premier men's cricket championship in Asia.

This prestigious tournament aims to promote goodwill and camaraderie among Asian countries. Held every two years, the Asia Cup alternates between the One Day International (ODI) format and the Twenty20 International (T20I) format.

Inception and Format

The first edition of the Asia Cup took place in 1984 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, where the Asian Cricket Council had its offices at the time.

Initially conducted as an ODI tournament, it has since evolved to include T20I matches as well.

All games played in the Asia Cup hold official ODI status, recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Historical Highlights

Over the years, the Asia Cup has seen various ups and downs, with some editions facing boycotts or cancellations due to political tensions.

Notably, India boycotted the 1986 tournament, and Pakistan followed suit in 1990–91 due to strained relations with India. The 1993 edition was canceled for the same reason.

India's Dominance and Success

Sri Lanka closely follows with six titles, while Pakistan has secured two championships.
